Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 19, 2026

1. Introduction

Recall Reader is operated by Deev Interactive LLC ("Company," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using the Service, you consent to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address for authentication purposes. This is stored securely via our authentication provider (Supabase).

2.2 Data Processed for Smart Features

When you use smart features ("Recall Summary," "Who Is This?," "Explain This"), we transmit the following to our servers for processing:

  • Text excerpts from the book you are reading (limited to content up to your current reading position)
  • The specific text selection or query you are asking about
  • Your current chapter and reading position
  • Book metadata (title, author) for context

Important: This data is transmitted only when you actively invoke an AI feature. We do not passively upload or sync your book content.

2.3 Cached Responses

To improve response times and reduce costs, we may cache generated character descriptions and summaries. These caches are stored anonymously, keyed by book identifier and chapter position, and contain only the generated response—not your personal reading data or account information.

2.4 Subscription and Payment Information

Payment processing is handled entirely by Google Play and RevenueCat. We receive subscription status information (active, expired, cancelled) and transaction identifiers, but we do not receive or store your payment card details, billing address, or other financial information.

2.5 Usage Analytics

We collect usage data to understand how the Service is used and to improve functionality. This includes feature usage (e.g., which smart features you use), session events, and general app performance metrics. This data is linked to your account for debugging and quality purposes, but is not shared externally.

2.6 Crash Reports

If the app crashes, we may collect crash logs and diagnostic information to identify and fix bugs. These reports may include device type, operating system version, and app state at the time of the crash.

3. Cloud Sync (Pro Feature)

Pro subscribers may enable Cloud Sync, which backs up your reading data to our servers for cross-device access. When enabled, the following is uploaded:

  • Your library metadata (titles, authors, reading progress)
  • Your bookmarks, highlights, and annotations
  • App preferences and settings

Backups are compressed archives, encrypted in transit (TLS), and encrypted at rest on our servers. Access is restricted to your authenticated account. Cloud Sync is optional—you can use Recall Reader without it, and your data will remain local to your device.

4. Information We Do NOT Collect

For clarity, we do not collect or have access to:

  • Your full EPUB book files (books remain on your device)
  • Location data
  • Contact lists or personal files
  • Payment card numbers or banking information

5. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • Process AI feature requests and generate responses
  • Authenticate your account and manage subscription status
  • Send transactional communications (password resets, account notifications)
  • Monitor and analyze usage patterns to improve the Service
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, or abuse
  • Comply with legal obligations

6. Model Training

We do not use your personal data, reading content, or queries to train machine learning models.

Smart features are powered by third-party language model providers. Per our agreements with these providers, data submitted through our API is not used to train their models. However, we cannot guarantee the practices of third-party providers beyond our contractual agreements. You should review their privacy policies for complete information.

7. Third-Party Service Providers

We share data with the following categories of service providers:

  • Supabase — Authentication and database hosting (stores account email, session tokens)
  • Language model providers — Text processing (receives book excerpts only when you use smart features)
  • RevenueCat — Subscription management (receives anonymized user ID, subscription status)
  • Google Play — App distribution and payment processing
  • Firebase/Google Analytics — Crash reporting and anonymized usage analytics

These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually obligated to protect your information. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

8. Data Retention

  • Account data: Retained while your account is active and for 30 days after deletion request
  • Cloud Sync backups: Retained while your account is active; deleted within 30 days of account deletion
  • Feature request logs: Retained for up to 90 days for debugging and abuse prevention, then deleted
  • Cached responses: May be retained indefinitely as they contain no personal data
  • Analytics data: Retained for service improvement; may be anonymized and aggregated indefinitely

9. Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

10. Your Rights and Choices

12. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States, where our servers and service providers are located. These countries may have different data protection laws. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers.

13. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we may also provide notice via email or in-app notification. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
